Expansion update: SLRC Phase 2

InsulTech continues to make progress on the expansion of its operations in San Luis Rio Colorado (SLRC), Sonora Mexico. This site was opened in 2021 with an initial footprint of 30,000 SF of sewn fabric insulation production space. Since then, the facility has been expanded to include metallic foil insulation production and an incremental 15,000 SF was added.

InsulTech’s new facility, pictured below, more than doubles this footprint with 120,000 SF of initial manufacturing space and the ability to expand to over 240,000 SF.

InsulTech has successfully launched both foil and fabric operations thanks to excellent efforts by its production team, led by Production Leader Arturo Flores. Sheet metal operations will come online in Q4 2024.

We are excited for the opportunity to expand our capabilities in this strategic manufacturing location. We are open for business and actively seeking programs to tool-up.

Project Spotlight: Microgrid Power Generation

InsulTech recently was selected to provide thermal insulation blankets for the first intelligent microgrid in the Central Valley of CA. This program delivers sustainability and energy resilience with islanding and outage ride-through capability to Tasteful Selections, a leading supplier of bite sized potatoes.

For years, growers have had to overcome energy supply challenges, but now Tasteful Selections will enjoy energy independence. The microgrid will combine reliable firm power, clean solar power, battery storage and an intelligent microgrid controller that utilizes Concentric Power’s Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and machine learning technology to proactively manage energy supply and demand to ensure the lowest cost energy resource is used at any given time.

As a result, Tasteful Selections will enjoy day to day savings and avoid costly operational interruptions caused by utility power outages and Public Safety Power Shutoffs. It is expected that the microgrid will help Tasteful Selections save upwards of 40% on energy costs and help guarantee that their bite-size potatoes will always be fresh. Combining 3.6 MW cogeneration firm power with 120 kW solar and 1.25 MW/625 kWh lithium-ion battery storage, the microgrid has approximately 5.0 MW total capacity with provisions to add additional renewables, including more solar and renewable natural gas. It is architected to create energy efficiency at every turn, from capturing and repurposing heat to optimizing engine efficiency and advanced load side management. The microgrid incorporates solar energy generation and battery storage to provide Tasteful Selections a pathway to net zero carbon.

InsulTech’s products improve safety and energy efficiency in the power generation systems used at this site.

Service Spotlight: OEM Fit-ups

C3 5578418
InsulTech goes the extra mile to ensure a perfect fit for its thermal insulation jackets with its onsite fit-up service for OEM customers, which we provide free of charge. This critical process ensures that any potential problems with the design, like size, closure type, or placement of access points, are identified and addressed before mass production begins.
This proactive approach saves OEMs time and money by preventing costly delays and rework down the line. InsulTech prioritizes not just the technical effectiveness of their jackets, but also their ease and safety of installation for the customer's workforce. By considering the user experience, InsulTech ensures their products integrate seamlessly into the customer's operation.
Our commitment to customer satisfaction is underscored by their mission statement, which is based on the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12). They believe in treating their customers with the same respect and care they would expect for themselves. This translates into providing products that not only meet technical specifications but also function well throughout their entire lifespan. By taking these extra steps, InsulTech builds trust and lasting relationships with their OEM customers.

Project Spotlight – Screw Compressors

InsulTech recently completed a design-build-install project for screw compressors used in oil and gas applications. This project involved was executed by InsulTech field technicians via an onsite stocking and modification facility within our customer’s plant.

InsulTech to Expand SLRC Site

InsulTech is pleased to announce an expansion of its San Luis Rio Colorado (SLRC), Sonora Mexico facility. This facility was opened in 2021 with an initial footprint of 30,000 SF of sewn fabric insulation production space. Since then, the facility has been expanded to include metallic foil insulation production and an incremental 15,000 SF was added.

InsulTech’s new facility will more than double this footprint, with 110,000 SF of initial manufacturing space and the ability to expand to over 200,000 SF.  In the coming months, InsulTech will launch operations to support both sewn fabric and foil insulation product types.

“SLRC  is a strategic investment site for InsulTech,” said Sean Deshler, Commercial Director. “The combination of excellent labor, border proximity, and competitive costs allow InsulTech to achieve quality, speed and cost at scale.”

Lighting and climate control system improvements are currently underway. InsulTech expects production to begin in July 2024.

Product Spotlight: T3000 Foil Encapsulated Heat Shields

T3000 foil encapsulated heat shields are abrasion resistant and designed to be environmentally impervious to the elements that impact on-highway vehicles, power generation equipment, gas turbines and other applications. They also resist vibration, and can withstand intermittent flame exposure without permanent deformation.

The total encapsulation achieved welding foil skins using AWS D17.2 resistance welding performed within InsulTech's Nadcap Accredited welding program.

InsulTech can provide design and material options options to increase stiffness and service life, and enhance appearance.

InsulTech recently completed a turnkey design-build-install project of thermal insulation blankets for an AT&T data center in Northern California.

This project consisted of removable T1000 thermal insulation blankets for the exhaust systems of generator sets deployed to provide power generation for the facility.

InsulTech’s design engineering team collaborated with the genset dealer and 3rd party subcontractors to develop the optimal technical solution based on operating conditions and geometries. Then, InsulTech’s field engineering performed site installation, including adding insulation blankets to the exhaust system within the genset hall, in the ceiling and on the roof.

Thermal insulation blankets improve thermal efficiency, noise attenuation and worker safety in power systems applications.
