Project Spotlight: Marine Carbon Capture

InsulTech is extremely proud for the opportunity to support emissions reduction in marine applications. These green-energy powered systems capture and filter exhaust from container ships, tankers and auto carriers, removing 99% of diesel particulate matter and 95% of nitrogen oxide. It then releases pollution-stripped gas that’s a mixture that includes CO2 and water vapor.

This incredible technology has the potential to drastically improve air quality in port areas, and mitigate the impact of the shipping industry, one of the world’s most significant contributors of pollutants and other harmful emissions. Tiny air pollution particles released from ships can get deep in lungs and blood when breathed in. This can lead to early death, more hospital stays for heart and lung problems, and asthma attacks. Kids, older folks, and those with heart or lung problems are at greater risk. Worse, these risks hit some communities harder. Areas near ports, often home to lower-income families and minorities, already face many pollution sources, hurting their health even more.

InsulTech designs, manufactures and installs sewn fabric insulation blankets for this vital application and we are thankful for the opportunity to be involved with this impressive innovation.  Learn more.

InsulTech Team at Yuma County Amazing Race 2024

On April 12, InsulTech Yuma employees participated in the 2024 Yuma County Amazing race.

This was a team race event. The InsulTech team competed against other local businesses and organizations, including: Liggett (Electrical / HVAC company), Yuma Humane Society, B&G Foods, Arizona Western College (AWC), Yuma Sun (Newspaper), Yuma Regional Medical Center, Culligan Water (Water conditioning), Crossroads Mission (Rehab Center) and Imaginary Friends (Graphic Design Services).

The teams were given staggered starting times and winners were determined based on time to complete the race course. At the starting location, the teams were given their first challenge. Upon completion of the first challenge, the teams were given a checklist of the ten locations they must visit in order to complete the race. The team will then drive to the first location. At each location, the teams needed to complete that location’s challenge. Once that challenge is complete, the location representative provided them with an envelope with puzzle pieces in it.

Once the team had successfully completed the challenges at all ten locations, the team went to the finish line. Before a team can officially cross the finish line, the team must complete a puzzle using all the puzzle pieces received throughout the race. Upon successful completion of the puzzle, the team’s time was recorded.

The event featured a reception at Julieanna’s Steakhouse where prizes were awarded. It was an awesome event.

Product Spotlight: T301 – Cost Neutral Foil Replacement for Sewn Fabric Jackets

To meet the needs of on and off highway vehicle OEMs, InsulTech’ has developed T301- a cost neutral metal foil, "clamshell" style replacement to sewn fabric insulation blankets (aka "softwrap").

This solution is suitable for harsh environments and can survive road and site conditions of extreme duty and high mileage equipment.  T301 foil heat shields are capable of direct exposure to flames without risk of burning or permanently deforming. They also resist vibration, hold-up to washing, and can withstand flammable liquids.

High durability materials are used to maximize performance over total lifecycle, and, unlike most foil insulation products, the startup costs including tooling, NRE are minimal... often zero. Learn more.

Introducing InsulTech Chapel

From the depths of the Covid 19 pandemic emerged a realization that would change InsulTech forever: faith and work are not meant to be separated. In 2021, InsulTech invited a former US Army chaplain and pastor/therapist to lead our company in a weekly Christian chapel service. It started as a way to help get through a tough time, and it was and will always be optional, but what has emerged from this is something special that positively affects many aspects of InsulTech’s business.

Through open, transparent conversation,  the company has been challenged to raise its game in many areas — in how we communicate, how we work together, and how we take responsibility when things go wrong.  We seek to conduct business without hypocrisy, in a way that is upright, open and honest. We actively seek to make a positive impact through all the relationships that develop in the course of business. We pray for the physical and spiritual wellbeing of those whose lives we have the honor of sharing — and we have seen God do great things!

InsulTech is not a perfect company, and we are not perfect people, but we seek something better than the temporary success that this world offers. Our theme scriptures for 2024 are:

Matthew 7:12
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Proverbs 27:17
As iron sharpens iron,
so one person sharpens another.

InsulTech Expands Tooling Center in Yuma

InsulTech is pleased to announce an expansion in our tooling capability at our Yuma, Arizona plant. This site now has 4 CNC mills a wood router, 3D printer and a tool buildup and validation cell. This in-house capacity adds to InsulTech’s preexisting capacity to run 12 concurrent toolsets; however, having this capability on premises in Yuma allows for rapid response for tool adjustment and repair requirements that arise from production activities in Yuma Arizona and San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico.

InsulTech produces a wide range of tools, including foil form dies, weld fixtures, assembly fixtures and check fixtures.  Material capabilities include a wide range of high density plastics, composites, aluminum and wood (short run). Tool materials are selected based on part characteristics, volumes and program life.

It also allows InsulTech to input programs with short launch windows, in some cases going from order through design, tooling, FAI/PPAP, soft launch and rate readiness in less than 6 weeks.

InsulTech Adds Foil Capabilities in SLRC

InsulTech is pleased to announce the addition of foil encapsulated and foil clamshell production capability at its high temperature insulation plant in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora Mexico.  The is added capability is made possible by the addition of 15,000 square feet of manufacturing space bringing the site total to 45,000 square feet. This site has been operating since Fall of 2021 and and is located near the San Luis commercial border crossing.

Capital expenditures to facilitate foil production include a new embossing/corrugation line, hydraulic presses and welding/assembly cells. It also is supported by the capabilities and personnel of the sewn fabric production line. Foil production began in early July 2022.  Further expansion of foil capabilities are in the planning phases.

“Adding foil to the SLRC site has many strategic advantages,” said Sean Deshler, Commercial Director, InsulTech. “This site is proven to provide the unique combination of globally competitive rates, industry-best lead times and world class quality. From this manufacturing center, we are well positioned to provide the best total value to customers — especially OEMs in the Americas.”
